If an adult child files for bankruptcy, how does this affect their elderly parent?

If you finances are separate as they should be it means nothing. My mom lives with us and we just had to file chapter 13 and it means nothing as far as her finances are concerned. We do owe her some money as she helped us financially while my husband was ill and out of work for a year and a half and we just listed her as a creditor on our bankruptcy. Are you finances separate or all together? If they are together it is best to open a new one for your parent because they can come after your parent's account down the road if it is joint. Hope this helps.
