You need to see an elder lawyer in your area who will know the current rules it is very complicated when you go to apply you are allowed to have some assests but if your assests are what social service determine are to much you will have to spend down to a level which they determine if you are in a nursing you may have to pay for the care until you reach what they decide you are allowed and they have a look back period which is at least 5 yrs of how your money was used and any large withdrawels will have to be explained and you have to have 3 yrs. of bank statements to submit which your bank will provide for you and your spouses or well spouse will have to disclose what their life insurance payment would be-and is considered an assest and the well spouse is allowed to have a certain income which maybe $2000.00 a month depending what state you live in-you really need help filling out the form and need much documentation.
