Is it possible to make money staying home with your elderly mother?
She is 99 , I am 73. She she has lose of memory and is hard of hearing. She needs some one in house to care for her. She no longer knows how to fix herself something to eat. I leave complete lunches and snacks, while I work.
There is very little in the way of federal government or state compensation for family members who stay at home to care for a parent. Some states have more programs than others...you can try your local "office on aging" - the number is listed in the government pages in your phone book - or online. Is your Mom a member of a church or local organization...they may have volunteers that can help out once a week or so. Also, try your senior citizen's center. Most caregivers pay out of pocket for in-home care. It costs about $12-18./hour here. good luck
