My mother can't communicate what she is trying to say.

Whenever it comes to strokes, heart attacks, or even a first time sinking episode, call 911. Better safe than sorry. I believe Medicare will pay for ambulance travel to the nearest facility if the EMT believes your health may be at risk [you may want to double check this].

For the person that suggested ER and an ambulance - the associated costs for these is prohibitive. My mom's condition makes her lose consciousness. She rests for a few minutes and she's fine. People at the Sr Center where this happened called 911 and mom took an ambulance ride of 1.3 miles. We are now trying to find a way to pay for the ambulance bill which is a bit over $3,000.

My mom is the same way...well, maybe not quite THAT 'off the wall', but she mumbles and no one can understand her. What makes it so bad, is that she has always been a little chatterbox. It drove me nuts before because she never shut up, but now that she doesn't make any sense, it's hard to even be in the same room with her. She always wants me to watch TV with her, yet when I do, I have to constantly pause it because she wants to say something...which ends up not making sense, and I have no idea how to respond. I just assumed it was a part of Dementia/growing old. (She is 89)

If aspirin agrees with her, have her take a low-dose aspirin tablet. If she seems to be having trouble, take her to the ER. It's usually faster to call an ambulance. I hope you won't need to, but if she is having little strokes, the damage can add up. They can give her medication that may help. More hugs to you.

A good possibility she is having mini strokes or TIA's... a Dr's appt is in order here I would think....
