Mom is in independent living, but needs to move to memory care facility. What are the options besides Medicaid facilities?

Does she have VA benefits that you might tap into? You can check into memory care facilities in your area; each local is different I understand; but some (very nice care facilities) have to set aside a minimum number of medicaid or low income beds -- so I would consult with my Senior Services/Aging Services office in your area and see if they can give you info. Another option is to see if she can afford to have some part time care/assistance in the facility she is in for now. Maybe a few hours a day or coming in a couple times; morning to help get her up, give her meds and meals; and then return again in evening to provide meds, dinner and get her ready for bed. Depending on her level of care needed, you will likely need to start looking into places and getting on a waiting list. Some memory care facilities can be more affordable if she would be willing to have a roomate. Sorry not of more help.

I will be watching the answers to this question myself. My mother is basically in the same situation. She also lives in a govt subsidized efficiency apt in a senior community but I see her going downhill every month. I am not sure what my next step should be either.
