Chair lift on a budget?

I bought a used chair lift for my grandmother when I moved into my townhouse 6 years ago. This evening it "died" and now we are in a pinch to get a new one. The company we used to get this chair lift worked on the unit several times in the last 2 years (a lot of $$), even installed a new motor just a few months ago which set me back $1000 and now I am struggling to figure out how to afford a new one ASAP. Does medicare cover them (the company we used said they don't accept medicare, but I am guessing other companies might). Are they tax deductible? Any advice would be helpful.

If the lift chair is ordered by a doctor, Medicare may cover the rental. Check the medical equipment stores in your area.
