What is the difference between age-related dementia and Alzheimer's?

My mom was just diagnosed with dementia, but the neurologist doesn't believe it's the type that leads to Alzheimer's. But when they gave me some books to read, they were all about Alzheimer's, although often they used the words Alzheimer's and dementia interchangeably. I'm so confused, and could use some clarification.

On YouTube: Senior Helpers National channel - video seminars by Teepa Snow are VERY valuable in regards to type & care of. Other videos also so check out the entire channel & what could apply.
ALZ is a type of Dementia and there are many types. Narrowing down which type is the key to proper treatment. This is not easy. None of this is easy so brace yourself.
Much of this depends on which form of media you respond to best. I prefer video seminars & hope they help you. Teepa Snow is amazing.
