My GP has told me not to wear wired bras, but I have a latex allergy which makes wearing an ordinary bra with an elastic underband impossible. Why should we not wear wired bras?
Your GP may have noticed the beginning of pressure sores along the ribcage, or on shoulders. It's not usually the fault of the bra construction, but more an indication that the woman is trying to force her 44B's into a 38DD. Just like shoes, wearing the wrong size does damage.
Oh boy Jessie! I grew up in the 70s/80s and didn;t wear a bra... old hippie I guess.LOL I have had reactions to underwire bras, now find ones that dont have it.. more comfortable during a 12 hour shift at the hospital. Maybe try a sports bra? My 84 year old tiny mom also doesent wear one unless she is going out.. feels more comfortable I guess
I just looked up the question and found there is an email/internet myth that underwire-bra wearers are at a higher risk of breast cancer than women who don't wear bras at all. The myth is unsupported with biology or statistics. I don't know, because I don't know any women who don't wear bras.
I'm older and wear bras with plastic "underwires." No problems at all. Your GP might be concerned the inserts would be less comfortable and might dig in if someone sits for long spells. Other than that, I can't imagine what the problem would be, as long as the bra fits loosely enough.
