Where do I go for help when my elderly mom is recovering from pneumonia but lives alone?

I live in a different city? As most of you know my mom's situation about being scammed a while back,I'm confronted with a situation where she sucame to  pneumonia and out of hospital but recovering slowly and I've been with her  for almost 2 weeks but need to get back to work in another city. She lives alone and has no resources at all since she was scammed but doesn't want to tell me who did this. She lives in texas and I work in Los Angeles. My boss can only be sympathetic for a while but I can't leave my mom to be alone.I've been doing all the cooking and cleaning for her. She's too weak to do this.please....I  need some help as to where to go in Texas.

You should also be in touch with the local Area Agency on Aging. Go to the website for mom's municipality or county and find out who the contracted agency is. Call them and find out if there is low cost, free or sliding scale home health care help available.

Have you been to the doctor with your mom? I think now is a good time to get her/him in the loop about what is going on with your mom and what her needs are, long term.

Going forward, there are going to be more emergencies, more issues, more illnesses. It's a good time to take stock of whether it is best to move mom closer to you in California or you move to Texas.

Where ever she ends up, you need to get an application for Medicaid started, if she no longer has resources.

Would her doctor write an order for some in-home care while she is recuperating? Did she have the option to go to a transitional care unit (rehab) when she was released from the hospital? It would seem to me that would be the best placement for her until she gets her strength back. I don't know how that works when you are not coming directly from a hospital, but I think I would explore that and see if it is an option.
