My mother scratches constantly on the back of her neck up into her scalp. If I leave her alone then the skin get broken and irritated. What can be done?
Mom uses Matrix for dry scalp both shampoo and conditioner. There are no skin tags. I do try the area directly, it starts at the base of the hair line up to midway of the scalp and behind the ears. She has long fingernails and I know that doesn't help the situation. Once in a while I clip the nails, it is like a status thing to have long nails. I've tried not to be mean but she does it everywhere, even at the dinner table. I sometimes think it is like a tick or something deeper.
Wonder if the problem is dry scalp? Does Mom use a hair conditioner after shampooing? That might help. Otherwise, have your Mom see a dermatologist to be sure what is the problem.
I know I have issues with my neck if there is a tag on a garment that irritates my neck. I usually have to put skin softener on that area of the neck.
