I usually call my uncle (he lives in Las Vegas, I live in Sacramento) once a week. Though these phone calls are so painful to me (probably him too) due to his confusion, I end up in tears after I hang up every time. This call my uncle was clearly agitated, confused about why the neurologist (Dr Yu) my uncle can't remember his name made him go to DMV to take a written test. (Dr Yu has tentatively dx'd my uncle with dementia, possibly Alzheimer's) My uncle read part of the letter to me stating that my uncle was to either come into their office to take a written test or voluntarily surrender his drivers license. He was so mad. I asked him what happened when he went to DMV. His words were "they had him go into a room with computers on the tables"(computers confuse him) so I asked him if he had taken the test/passed it. He began ramblining about how he hates this Dr (Yu) and how he's trying to take over his life.....on and on.....so I assume the answer is, no he either didn't pass or he didn't understand the computers enough to take the test. I know my uncle is confused, scared of losing his independence and he needed to vent, I just happen to be the one that called. So I didn't take it personal. But it was still so hard to hear this man struggle for words, thoughts. I know my uncle is still driving and if he can't find his keys (he loses them all the time) he will drive his lady companion's car (she lives with him) I've told her that he's not supposed to be driving, but she's in such denial saying my uncle is just getting older. I can't rely nor depend on her to tell me what's going on with my uncle. She used to be his girlfriend in high school, over 60yrs ago, since then she's had 3 sons, 3 marriages (the husbands have died) and my uncle was married to my aunt for 62yrs. She was his queen, he spoiled her to her dying day. So this woman is wanting to re-live their relationship that they had 60yrs ago (yea, she's crazy) and she's jealous of me 😳 I'm assuming because of the love my uncle has for me.....wth????? 😳 Of course I'm concerned he may hurt himself or someone else while driving. I'm hoping his car insurance will get informed by DMV that they have taken his license away and contact him saying he no longer has car insurance. Plus if he's still making a car note that whomever holds the car loan will repo the car. At this point my uncle still won't take his meds (this includes his cardiac meds, he's had quadruple bypass surgery years ago and his blood pressure meds, at his last Dr's appointment (I was there with him) his blood pressure was over 200!!!! He refuses home health and I'm almost positive he will not go to his scheduled appointments (MRI and neuropsychologist both coming up in early April) At that point I will call his primary/neurologist/elderly attorney and ask what can be done. CEL wants 2 Dr letters saying my uncle is not competent in order for me to get POA, the Dr's won't write such letters until they get the results from MRI and Neuropsychologist. What a mess! Nicole

I've already contacted my legal insurance and have 4 attorneys to call that are in Nevada. Once I pick 1 of them my legal insurance will pay 100% of what it takes to go to court to ask for conservstorship.
I like to try to be 3 steps ahead.
