My dad is 84, in a nursing home with alzhiemer, on Medicaid. He gets 60 dollars a month and can't afford new dentures out of pocket. His old dentures hurt his gums so bad that it prevents him from eating. He has lost so much weight.
Mark, is your father a Veteran? The VA has a dental program; I don't know all the details as I haven't checked it out....yet. It's another item on my long to-do list.
You might find some information on these hits, but again, they address a VA plan.
AARP does have a plan through Delta Dental; premiums start out reasonably but are raised annually. Benefits also increase annually, and I don't remember whether dentures are included initially or after some year(s) or subscription to the plan.
Years ago I did a comparison of dental plans available at that time. The AARP plan was the most reasonable and beneficial.
Premiums now are about $200 quarterly; that's after being in the plan for several years.
Every state has different coverage for dental concerns. Check with your local Medicaid office to see if Dad’s plan will cover part or all of his dental work.
“Dental care and dentures are optional benefits, so not every state covers them. If you have limited income and qualify for Medicaid, contact your state's Medicaid department to learn if dentures are covered. ... These plans typically cover oral exams, cleanings, X-rays, fillings, and other preventive dental care.”- from google.
