MH, hi, I live in NYC.

Call 311 and ask to be connected to the Department of Aging. They should be able to tell which local contract agency is assigned to your area of the city--it may be Catholic Charities of JASSA or something that sounds like you need to belong to a specific group, but you don't.

Call them and discuss your issue with them. In an emergency, you should get the number for your local fire house; they should be able to help in a "one off" situation.

mh, I recommend contacting your county's area on aging. This resource will help you with all the resources available for seniors in your county.

Is this something you would need on a regular bases or just for appts? Because, I don't know anyone who would do this every time a person wants to leave their apartment. The people I know that had this problem moved to the first floor in their complex. Or, the person needs to move to a 55 and up complex where there is an elevator.

But, this is NYC and there is rent control, right? Meaning the person does not want to leave that particular apartment. Will the landlord allow a stair lift to be installed?
