She has terrible bottom sores from lack of proper care at facilities. Her kids have to supplement $ for diapers, etc. plus the facility rates. Nothing is affordable. That $300 above the medicaid threshold isn’t enough to live in a good, caring facility. What can be done to get approved for medicaid so she can get into a decent place? She is stuck in a terrible quandary. Please help. She is a good person and deserves basic decent care like we all do.She has been tossed back and forth to rehabs to hospitals to facilities. She just needs a place that is clean and caring.

Medicare pays for home health to come to where mom lives to provide wound care.

Do see an elder law attorney and ask about some sort of trust (Miller?) or Q.I.T (qualified income trust) that may work here. This will be difficult because this isn't "guaranteed income" and cannot be put aside, and I think putting aside her SS in such a trust would leave her with almost nothing. But do ask.
The other thing is the ability to go to the court and petition to have this lifelong alimony stopped. Ex - hubby would probably be grateful.
Ask him if HE would be willing to go in and petition with a letter from her confirming that is her choice.

I don't have any other ideas. This is a dilemma, for sure.
